The Internet erupted in to a frenzy a few weeks back when makeup mogul Kylie Jenner’s best friend, Jordyn Woods, was caught canoodling with Jenner’s older sister Khloe Kardashian’s baby daddy, Tristian Thompson. The court of public opinion initially slammed Woods, calling her a home wrecker, a snake, and in violation of our most precious set of unspoken rules: girl code. In the fall out, Jordyn took to Jada Pinkett-Smith’s widely-watched Facebook live show “Red Table Talk” to clear the air.

After Woods admitted she was wrong, but ultimately penned the blame on the philandering basketball star for kissing her, social media was divided, with many Black folks stanning for 21-year-old Woods against the power of the Kardashian empire.

The controversy triggered lots of conversation around girl code and what it means to be loyal to your friends. Some people wondered, what does it mean when we are ready to give up a lifelong friend from one transgression, yet give grace to our romantic partners mistake after mistake?

This week, on ‘Listen To Black Women, hosts Shamika Sanders, Keyaira Kelly & Africa Miranda explore the benefits and backlash of girl code, and why we have to be more forgiving towards our girlfriends.
