Kanye West and Candace Owens are firmly behind “Blexit,” which the sunken duo said was supposed to be a “We Free” type of website for Black people who have “released themselves from the political orthodoxy” of belonging to the Democratic Party. However, they appear to have stolen the term, which actually originated with a movement that started last year to encourage African-Americans to leave white financial institutions and bank Black.
According to the real Blexit group, “Blexit is a Strategic Movement towards Black Independence through economic boycotting, civil disobedience and organized investment into the Black economy. We will no longer participate in or contribute to a community that condones our intentional demise.”
One social media user even called out Candace and Kanye for stealing the campaign:
Blexit has been anti-Trump since he was elected. “Open an account at a black owned bank,” the group’s Twitter handle tweeted shortly after the president was elected. “We need to show up like white women showed up to vote for Donald Trump.”
According to their Twitter page, Blexit launched in August of 2016, over 2 years ago.
How intellectually bereft for Owens and Kanye to create an anti-Black movement and steal a term that was originally meant to inspire and build Black economic growth — and to combat against racists like their leader Donald Trump. In case you missed it, here is the T-shirt Kanye designed:
Voter suppression is affecting Black and brown citizens across the country. Trump is rolling back Obama-era policies to stop the wrongful incarceration of Black people. Also, a record number of African-Americans are running for office while Kanye and Candace are profiting from an insane movement that is being praised by racist Republicans.
For Owens, this was expected, as she once said the NRA was a civil rights organization that protected Black people from the KKK. But for Kanye, this is the bottom of the barrel.
That said, yes, join the true Blexit movement and bank Black.
