Jay Dixon joined Radio One Philadelphia as the Program Director of Classix 107.9, 100.3 RNB and Praise HD-2 in April 2019. Jay is a seasoned pro who grew up in Boston listening to “The Sound of Philadelphia.” “I’ve also been a big fan of the artists, producers, musicians and song writers in Philly. Tom Bell, Linda Creed, Gamble and Huff, Salsoul Records and all of those songs were a huge part of my life.” “It’s a dream come true to be on the radio in Philadelphia, a city that brought a timeless sound to the world.”
Jay began his radio career at the legendary WILD/Boston and mentored by former WHAT Philadelphia Radio personality Sonny Joe White. He’s worked with Isaac Hayes as producer for his morning show on 98.7 Kiss New York.
Jay was also a DJ/Mixer and MC as “Jay Mixin Dixon” at 98.7 Kiss FM New York City while also serving as Production/Creative Services Director. Prior to arriving in Philadelphia, Jay hosted and DJ’d parties at SOB’s in New York while consulting KBLX/San Francisco, Hot 97 and WBLS New York.
Jay hosts middays 9am to 2pm on Classix 1079. He also collects rare copies of vinyl records played on Classix1079 during his “Turntable Tuesday” segment. He also enjoys participating in various events with Community Advocate Solomon Jones and concerts with Lady B. “I enjoy driving through the city and visiting neighborhood bars and when you see random bald, bearded brother in a neighborhood bar talking to people about music, it might be me.”
