60 Seconds With Shaila: DJ Jazzy Jeff Exclusive

In an exclusive 60 Seconds with Shaila, hip-hop pioneer DJ Jazzy Jeff pulled up for a candid, one-on-one chat that packed a massive punch. The interview was captured entirely on the move as Jazzy Jeff made his rounds serving as a Grand Marshal for this year’s Philadelphia Juneteenth Parade and Festival. Despite the whirlwind energy of the parade, the homegrown Philly legend didn’t skip a beat, shedding light on music history, culture, and TV nostalgia.

Going straight for the hard-hitting questions, Shaila asked what music fans everywhere have been dying to know. The turntable maestro didn’t hold back, delivering rapid-fire answers that satisfied every music lover’s curiosity.

Among the highlights, Jazzy Jeff shared his absolute must-have playlist song to set the perfect vibe for a summer cookout including “Summertime,” “Before I Let Go,” and “Outstanding” by The Gap Band. When asked which DJ is most deserving of their flowers right now, he didn’t hesitate to acknowledge everyone who has gone before him and paved the way. Turning back the clock, Jazzy Jeff also shared a behind-the-scenes secret that The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air fans would be absolutely surprised to learn: he wasn’t acting. He shared he read the script and still played himself.

Because Philly is a sports-loving city, Shaila had to ask him if he had to DJ an Eagles legends cookout, who would get the invite. Jazzy Jeff immediately recognized the late Reggie White and Jerome Brown, and included favorites Jalen Hurts and Brian Dawkins.

To top it all off, he revealed his personal Mt. Rushmore of music, paying homage to heavyweights like Grandmaster Flash, Grand Wizzard Theodore, and Jazzy Jeff (included by Shaila).

DJ Jazzy Jeff proved that even in just 60 seconds, a true master of the craft always delivers.
