Damon Wayans Reunites With David Alan Grier on NBC Comedy
Damon Wayans and David Alan Grier are officially reuniting on television, bringing two In Living Color favorites back together nearly three decades after their time on the groundbreaking sketch comedy series.
Wayans is set to guest star in the Season 3 premiere of NBC’s St. Denis Medical, appearing as Dr. Highland, a charming but pompous physician who temporarily steps in while Grier’s character, Ron, recovers from surgery. Fans can catch their on-screen reunion when St. Denis Medical returns November 2 on NBC.
The guest appearance marks a nostalgic full-circle moment for fans who watched Wayans and Grier help make In Living Color a television phenomenon during the 1990s. Grier was a cast member throughout the comedy series’ five-season run from 1990 to 1994, while Wayans starred during its first three seasons and later returned in a recurring capacity.
Created by Keenen Ivory Wayans, In Living Color became an important part of television history, providing a major platform for Black comedians and performers while introducing audiences to stars who would go on to have decades-long careers.
Wayans continued his success after the series with projects including the hit sitcom My Wife and Kids, Fox’s Lethal Weapon and numerous film roles. Grier has built an equally versatile career spanning television, movies, theater and comedy.
Their reunion will take place in the world of St. Denis Medical, NBC’s mockumentary-style workplace comedy centered on the doctors and nurses trying to keep an underfunded and understaffed Oregon hospital running. The series stars Allison Tolman, Grier, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Josh Lawson, Kahyun Kim, Mekki Leeper and Kaliko Kauahi.
Wayans’ guest appearance offers longtime In Living Color viewers a welcome dose of nostalgia while giving a new generation the chance to see two performers whose work helped establish Black comedy as a major force on mainstream television.
The Season 3 premiere of St. Denis Medical airs November 2 on NBC.
