Tiffany Haddish has avoided additional jail time after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor alcohol-related driving charge connected to her January 2022 arrest in Georgia.
The actress and comedian entered her plea by video on Tuesday. Other charges against her were dropped as part of the resolution. Haddish was sentenced to 12 months of probation and ordered to avoid drugs and alcohol and complete a substance abuse evaluation. She also received credit for the brief period she spent in jail following her original arrest.
The case dates back to January 14, 2022, when authorities received a 911 call around 2:30 a.m. reporting a driver who appeared to be asleep behind the wheel of a white Ford Explorer at a traffic light in Peachtree City, about 30 miles south of Atlanta.
According to court documents, an officer later spotted an SUV matching the caller’s description and stopped Haddish as she pulled into a neighborhood.
The case remained unresolved for more than four years. In May, Haddish’s attorneys asked a judge to dismiss it, arguing that the lengthy delay had caused personal and professional difficulties and violated her right to a speedy trial.
Fayette County State Court Judge Jason Thompson rejected that argument, finding that Haddish and her legal team had requested some of the delays themselves. The judge also found that she had not provided evidence showing specific lost performing opportunities or financial damages resulting from the case taking so long to resolve.
The Georgia case is not Haddish’s only alcohol-related driving incident. She was arrested in Beverly Hills in November 2023 after police responded to a report that she appeared to be slumped over the wheel of a vehicle while its engine was running.
That California case was resolved in February 2024 when Haddish pleaded no contest to a vehicle code violation. Two misdemeanor DUI charges were dropped as part of the plea agreement.
Haddish is best known for her breakout performance in Girls Trip and has appeared in films including Night School, Like a Boss and The Kitchen. She has also earned both Emmy and Grammy awards during her career.
With her latest plea, the Georgia case that followed Haddish for more than four years has now reached a resolution, with the comedian serving probation instead of returning to jail.
