YouTube said it disabled comments on tens of millions of videos this past week, and will be banning any comments on videos featuring any minors, young or old, over the “next few months.”

“Nothing is more important to us than ensuring the safety of young people on the platform,” YouTube CEO said.

The new policy, which comes amid a fierce backlash, will suspend comments not only on videos featuring children under the age of 13 but also on those featuring older minors that could be at risk of attracting predatory behavior.
