Los Angeles’ famed arena for sports and entertainment is about to get a name overhaul…or update.

The STAPLES Center is going to change to the Crypto.com Arena. Say that out loud and then say it again in a boisterous commentator’s voice.

The change will be official on Christmas Day this year to coincide with the NBA’s Christmas Day special rout of games. The STAPLES Center had been the home for the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Sparks and Los Angeles Kings for 22 Years.

According to Sam Dean of the Los Angeles Times,

Crypto.com paid more than $700 million for the naming rights, according to sources familiar with the terms, making it one of the biggest naming deals in sports history.

Anschutz Entertainment Group, or AEG, owns the property and they released the bombshell upon fans of the venue last night. They believe that the name change is a step in the right direction.

The entertainment giant released a statement with quotes like,

“This partnership, brokered by AEG Global Partnerships, places the Crypto.com brand at the center of some of the biggest and most important sports and live entertainment moments set to take place over the course of the next two decades. It also underscores the rapidly growing influence and widespread adoption of Crypto.com’s cryptocurrency platform and NFT marketplace worldwide.”

and

“This partnership is about the future,” said Dan Beckerman, President and CEO of AEG.  “AEG and Crypto.com not only share a vision about innovation and the future of sports and entertainment, but we also have a shared commitment to our communities where we work and live.  We look forward to partnering with Crypto.com to create meaningful initiatives to bring that vision to life in the years to come.”

If you didn’t think cryptocurrency would end up being this popular, you might want to think again. Crypto.com is one of the world’s largest hubs to buy, sell and trade cryptocurrencies and NFTs.

And for clarification purposes, Crypto.com is an app. There’s a website to company page, but it is AN APP that you can download to your phone or whatever device you have.

You’ll have to ask cryptocurrency experts like Bitcoin Rodney or Akon, to get the rest of the knowledge on cryptocurrencies. Those two even have a crypto conference ready to go in Miami this week.

Anyways, “The People” reacted and it doesn’t look to good for the partnership.
