According to Philadelphia Business Journal, former Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter is becoming a part of the U.S. Department of Treasury.

Mayor Nutter will be joining the U.S. Department of Treasury’s newly formed equity committee.

The Treasury Advisory Committee on Racial Equity will try to provide advice and recommendations to Secretary Janet Yellen and Deputy Secretary Wally Adeyemo. The diverse inaugural 25-member committee consists of members from different backgrounds of academia, advocacy, financial services, and local government. They are looking to keep a close eye on identifying and reviewing aspects of the domestic economy that have directly and indirectly resulted in unfavorable conditions for communities of color. The committee plans to address topics including financial inclusion, access to capital, housing stability, federal supplier diversity, and economic development. The committee says they aren’t committed to those specific subjects as well, it plans to tackle more issues that affect people of color.

Advancing racial equality is the goal, and their common experience with the racial inequality in the United States is known all too well.
